TechEd Europe 2010: Keynote summary

The Keynote made it very clear how important the cloud might/will be for the industry the following years. The presenter Brad Anderson even compared the Cloud with the invention of electricity, enough said.

Microsoft sees the Cloud delivering three core services:
  • SaaS: Software as a service
  • IaaS: Infrastructure as a service
  • PaaS: Platforms as a service
Below you can find a list of new products that were demoed during the Keynote. Next to the Windows 7 Phone and SQL Azure all these products were new to me and one by one they looked very promising.

I plan on posting the most interesting stuff here daily this week, so stay tuned!

  1. The problem for me is that none of these concepts are new. The fact that Microsoft is jumping on this bandwagon is not a surprise as it is likely to be a mainstream source of income over the coming years and a failure to run with the crowd could be a big problem.
I didn't feel that this went far enough as a key note, I don't expect demos of what is already out there in the IT community, I want to know what is happening in the future.
This may seem like a negative rant, but we pay a lot of money to MS for this event and it seems to me like we are being treated like children.
